CACTUSPEDIA

Description: Reason of the change into the species status ( by: Dieter Waldeis)
By our observation (In contrast to Ch. Lemaire) The napiform root of E. kroenleinii is capable of integration with the Hypocotyl contrarily to E. poselgeri that form several new shoots from the upper parts of the storage organ. The napiform root  is more oblong and light-brown in juvenile-stage, later become roundish approximately, 100-150 mm in diameter and black-brown. Already this characteristic prohibits the synonymization with E. poselgeri. Besides E.  kroenleinii  is stronger with more branches and differs from E. poselgeri for the wool on the new shoots and for the strongly fragrant bloom with shorter flower tube. Fruit are smaller and fast-maturing with cuticular convolution on the warty head surface more strongly marked.
Remarks: The statement of A. CARTIER that it can be pollinated only with pollen of E. poselgeri is not correct .
